Slowly but surely it seems brands we have hoped would be available in the UK have begun to make their way over. Debenhams have been leading pioneers in bringing U.S brands exclusively to their Oxford Street store and online. When Debenhams announced Kat Von D Beauty would be available in September I could not contain my excitement. Finally, I would be able to visit their Oxford Street store and test the products before I made a purchase.
I was invited by Debenhams to their blogger event to celebrate the opening of Kat’s beauty counter in the store. I did not know what to expect from the event but I left feeling more in love with the brand. Hosting the event was Erik Soto who is Kat’s leading Global Makeup Artist for Kat Von D Beauty. You can read more about Erik and his work here. Erik was an absolute darling, his personality was so warming and humbling and in less than an hour I learned so much about Kat’s products, more than than I ever have by watching hours of YouTube reviews.
Between the 05th of October until the 07th Debenhams were offering all that purchased anything from Kat Von D Beauty to meet Kat herself on the 08th. There were a limited amount of wrist bands and as you can expect, demand was high. Speaking to some staff members I had learned that there were people who began to camp outside the store on the 04th! Fortunately, I was able to get wrist bands for myself as well as a couple of friends.
As I now write this I have physically met Kat Von D. The entire experience was surreal, although quick it will be something I remember for a long, long time. I have to give it to Kat for being so dedicated to her fans in the UK and agreeing to meet every single person that had a wrist band, Kat even informed Debenhams to release more bands and almost double the initial number so she could meet more people. I was amazed when I found this out and I’m sure I speak for the majority when I say thank you Kat for showing those who love and admire you that you value them just as much.
As well as meeting Erik and the beauty herself, I met a lot of staff that will be working at the counter in Debenhams. Every staff member I came across was so loving towards customers and approached you with a keen desire to help. Sometimes counters can be intimidating, but honestly I promise you if you ever want to visit the Kat Von D counter and wish to discuss any concerns you have, particularly in regards to complexion products you will enjoy the experience and feel comfortable. As far as I am aware, Alex is the counter manager and oh my goodness she has such an infectious bubbly personality, you will love her just as much as I did.
Going back to the 08th of October, Debenhams had done a fantastic job in organising the entire event. Irrespective of a 3 hour wait in the line to meet Kat, Debenhams had staff handing out mini samples of products as well as drinks and snacks to every person in line. When I finally reached the end I could see Kat hugging and talking to the people before me, she was even more beautiful than I imagined. I had so much I wanted to say to her but in the end I just froze and could only get out the words hi and I love you (smooth, I know).
The moments with Kat went by fast but I will certainly remember her hug. Erik had told us at the blogger event that she gave the best hugs but it wasn’t something I thought much of until actually hugging her. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and she even signed my Shade and Light Contour Palette! As much as I loved meeting Kat I do have to say that meeting Erik was just as wonderful.
At the blogger event Erik had gone through every product and explained the versatility of a variety of the brands products as well as showing how to use them. After our session had ended I was sold on so many of the products and could not wait to shop. Debenhams had gifted all attendees a voucher to purchase anything we would like to from the brand which was a wonderful surprise.
I already owned a few of the Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks as well as the Shade and Light Contour Palette so my focus was on the complexion products.
I have combination skin but it leans more towards being dry than oily. From the majority of reviews that I had seen regarding this foundation it appeared as unsuitable for those with dry skin. I put forward my concerns to Erik who instantly said that it was not true and that the foundation was suitable for all skin types. However he did state that the key is preparing the skin. He suggested that before you apply the foundation to ensure your skin is completely moisturised, and that this is where the Lock-It Hydrating Face Primer complimented the foundation perfectly.
Since purchasing the foundation I have used it a handful of times and I can confirm what Erik said to be true. The foundation does not cling to any of my dry patches and does in fact glide on smoothly, much to my surprise. I am going to test it for another week or so before I present to you my final thoughts. However, so far so good.
From all the reviews I had read or watched, I barely saw anyone commenting how hydrating this primer was. In fact, the majority just stated that this primer really helped keep your makeup in place. When Erik was explaining the versatility of the primer, he had said that it’s main purpose is to hydrate the skin and ensure it is properly prepared for anything you apply thereafter. Furthermore, he confirmed that the formula was not specifically designed to help your makeup last longer nor does it claim to.
Additionally, we were told that the formula for the Lock-It Hydrating Face Primer can also be used to sheer out the coverage of not only the Lock-It Liquid Foundation, but any other foundation you want. I put this to the test and I am impressed with the results. Similarly as with the foundation I will present a full review on the blog soon.
Of all the products I was shown at the event, it was the Lock It Setting Powder that I instantly fell in love with. The velvet texture reminded me very much of the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder which I absolutely love. However, when I blended this product the finish is what stunned me, it instantly seemed to blur all imperfections without enhancing skin texture.
Kat’s Lock-It Setting Powder is one of the newest additions to her line alongside her new concealers. I personally have not yet researched many reviews, however, I will be reporting back on this product in the upcoming weeks.
I did hold back from purchasing the new concealers although they certainly are on my list, but for now I think I have enough products to review and I know Kat has a lot coming for the next year too!
If I am correct in my understanding, Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick has sold more shades of Lolita than any other of her shades. Now, I have a backup of one of my favourite nude shades. Kat also went one step further and created Lolita in lipstick in her “Studded Kiss” formula so all those who are not fans of liquid lipsticks can enjoy the colour too.
Within the online beauty community I often hear many bloggers and vloggers that do rave about how good the Trooper liner is by Kat Von D. I’m not someone that is very good at doing a winged eyeliner, BUT, I am practicing to step up my game and I intend to do it with this cult favourite.
That wraps up my haul, I want to take this opportunity to thank Debenhams – particularly Vanessa, who invited me to this event. From the blogger event right until the meet and greet, Debenhams as well as Kat’s team have done a fantastic job and I cannot wait to shop there more often.
The majority of Kat Von D’s range of beauty products are available online as well as exclusively at the Oxford Street and Intu Lakeside store. The new pans for the Shade and Light Contour Palette are due to be added to the line early next year.
Thank you for reading, I’m signing out until my next post.
